  • The Delhi University (DU) has instructed its affiliated colleges this year to conduct a forensic examination of all documents submitted by students at the time of admission.

The decision was taken to avoid a repeat of the case of former Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) President Ankiv Baisoya who allegedly submitted fake mark sheets in 2018.

DU's admission process for 2019-20 commenced on Thursday.

  • A list of impaneled forensic agencies will be provided to all the colleges by the university to conduct the analysis of students' documents.

Meanwhile, DU also tied up with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to gain access to a link to its students' documents.

While registering for the university admission, the students will be asked whether they are from CBSE or not.

  • Over 80% of the students applying to DU are from CBSE, a university official said. "We will have to carry out examination of documents of the remaining 20%... Incase documents submitted by a student is...fake, a case will be filed with police," the official said.

  • Also, DU colleges' work will be reduced to an extent as weightage calculation with respect to different education boards has been automated.

Meanwhile, the official said DU would issue smart identity cards to students. Currently, there's no uniformity as every college issues separate IDs.

"The identity cards will look similar but have the name of the college stamped on it," the official added.

DU is planning to involve NTA for entrance examination

  • While admission to most DU courses is subject to cut-off lists, some courses require students to appear for an entrance examination. Reportedly, DU is planning to involve the National Testing Agency (NTA), which also conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) this year, for the same.
