India
Senior DMK leader and former water resources minister Durai Murugan is under fire after Tamil Nadu's anti-corruption agency linked him to a massive ₹1,427.34 crore sand mining scam from four of the 28 quarries alone.
The alleged wrongdoing happened between 2021 and 2024, with raids at dozens of locations uncovering serious violations.
Scam alleged during previous DMK government
Investigators say the scam took place during the previous DMK government and involved illegal contracts, fake permits, and unauthorized sand transport from 28 river quarries.
Along with Murugan, several engineers, government officials, and private players are also named.
