Economic Survey 2025-26: India needs to improve its global influence
India
India's 2025-26 Economic Survey points out a big gap between the country's resources and its actual global influence.
According to the Power Gap Index, India scores -4.0—the lowest in Asia after Russia and North Korea—suggesting we're not making the most of our strengths on the world stage.
What is Power Gap Index?
The Power Gap Index looks at more than just military or economic size; it also considers things like diplomatic ties, cultural impact, and future potential.
Japan, for example, scores high (11.3) by using its resources smartly.
Meanwhile, North Korea's low score (-8.2) shows that having military power alone isn't enough if you lack connections with other countries.
