    Essel group, the conglomerate which owns the Zee entertainment network is set to mark its ninetieth anniversary on Sunday. The anniversary celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Stadium is purported to see a star studded attendance with the likes of PM Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee. The event is currently trending on Twitter as #YoungAt90. Let us know more on this conglomerate!

    Speaking on the conglomerate's future plans, its Chairman, Dr. Subhash Chandra noted, "Essel Group is a multi-billion dollar diversified business conglomerate........ I am confident that we will carry forward the legacy of the Group with complete passion, dedication and above all, the spirit of #YoungAt90!"

    What is the Essel Group?

    Founded by Jagan Nath Goenka and his brothers in 1926 at the Mandi Adampur market in Haryana, the Group in 90 years has morphed into a multi-billion dollar conglomerate. It operates in about 172 countries and employs around 40,000 people. Starting off with commodity trading and then moving on to entertainment, Essel has also expanded into sectors from gold refining and education to infrastructure.

    High impact projects

    Essel in 2015 announced ASHA (Affordable Shelter Housing for All), in sync with the government's 'Housing for All' Scheme. It plans to construct 2 lakh homes for the weaker sections by 2022. Essel, along with Hitachi as a technology partner has signed solid waste to power conversion deals with 18 cities. It also plans to venture out into water supply and power distribution sectors.

    Chandra's success mantra

    On the Essel Group's core values, Chandra says, "Keep your commitment, try to be honest and respect individuals". He sums up the same as "The handshake agreement being far more solid than the written agreement".
