Faridabad woman delivers baby outside hospital after main gate locked
India
A woman in Faridabad, Haryana, India, had to deliver her baby in a hospital parking lot around 2am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, May 23 because the main gate was locked.
Her family tried calling for help but got no response, so they ended up helping with the delivery themselves right outside the hospital.
Staff punished, hospital gate ordered open
Nurses used flashlights to assist, and both mother and baby were admitted afterward.
The incident went viral, sparking outrage about local healthcare.
After an inquiry found serious lapses, one staff member was fired, another suspended, and a nurse transferred.
Hospital authorities have now been told to keep the main gate open and staffed at all times to prevent anything like this from happening again.
