Five men convicted by Delhi court for 2020 Delhi riots
A Delhi court has convicted five men for joining a violent mob during the northeast Delhi riots back in February 2020, which erupted amid protests against the CAA and NRC.
Additional sessions judge Parveen Singh of Karkardooma Courts said Arif, Mohd Khalid, Abdul Sattar, Tanveer Ali, and Hunain were clearly involved in rioting and assaulting police officers.
Delhi court to hear sentence arguments
Prosecutors brought in 26 witnesses to show these men were part of a crowd throwing stones and clashing with police near Bhajanpura gas station.
The court agreed there was enough proof for rioting charges but not for more serious crimes like arson or property destruction, mainly because of gaps in fire reports and investigation.
The court will hear arguments on the quantum of sentence on September 16.
