Flooding persists in Kottayam and Pathanamthitta after Meenachil River overflow
After days of heavy rain, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta in Kerala are dealing with flooded homes and muddy streets.
The Meenachil River has overflowed, leaving some areas still underwater.
Crews are working hard to clear debris and restore normal life, but rivers are still hovering close to the warning level and low-lying spots like Kummanam and Kumarakom haven't dried out yet.
More than 12,000 in relief camps
Right now, more than 12,000 people are staying in relief camps as a safety measure. Schools are closed (except for exams) because an orange alert is still on.
The government has stepped up with ₹10,000 in aid for affected families and shop owners, plus a 25% boost in crop-loss compensation.
Quarry operations are paused until August 10 as landslide warnings remain for high-range areas.
