Central pool MBBS seats reserved for J&K terrorism victims' children
What's the story
The government has reserved four MBBS seats under the Central Pool for the 2026-27 academic session. The seats are exclusively for eligible permanent residents of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir who are spouses or children of civilians killed, permanently disabled, or seriously injured in terrorist incidents. The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) is now accepting applications for these seats, which have been allocated to medical colleges in Bihar, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.

Medical colleges where seats have been reserved
The notification states that one seat each has been reserved at AN Magadh Medical College in Gaya, Bihar, and Grant Medical College in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Two seats have been reserved at Pt. JNM Medical College in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The scheme is open to permanent residents of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir who are spouses or children of civilians killed, permanently disabled, or seriously injured in terrorist incidents.
Application requirements
Eligibility criteria for applicants
Applicants must be at least 17 years old by the time of admission or by December 31 of the admission year.
Candidates must meet National Medical Commission eligibility by passing Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually, securing the required aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and achieving the qualifying percentile in NEET-UG 2026.
The selection will be based on NEET-UG 2026 rank, and no separate entrance examination will be conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Selection process
Priority-based system for seat selection
A priority-based system has been introduced for seat selection.
First preference is given to children whose both parents were killed by terrorists.
Second preference is for children whose sole family breadwinner was killed in a terrorist incident, and third preference is for children of victims who suffered permanent disability or serious injuries due to terrorism.
Benefits under the first two priorities are restricted to one child per family.
Document submission
Documents required for application process
Applicants must submit a domicile certificate, NEET scorecard, Class 12 marks certificate, proof of date-of-birth, and category certificate if applicable.
They also need to submit supporting documents such as FIRs, death certificates, post-mortem reports, and affidavits confirming no other family member has availed this benefit.
Additional certification is required for Priority II applicants to prove the deceased was the sole breadwinner of the family.

BOPEE has clarified that applying does not guarantee selection; final selection will be made by the competent ministry as per rules.
The reservation policy of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will apply to these Central Pool seats.
Applications must be submitted in duplicate and in person at BOPEE offices in Jammu or Srinagar by 4:00pm on September 15, 2026.
