Gujarat High Court prolongs Asaram's temporary bail
The Gujarat High Court has given Asaram Bapu, the self-styled godman convicted of rape, a temporary bail extension until July 7.
This extra time was granted so his legal team can submit required documents about his health, including a certificate from the National Legal Services Authority.
Originally, he got bail on medical grounds from the Supreme Court, which expired on March 31, and the Gujarat High Court's bail was supposed to end on June 30.
Asaram's lawyer on paperwork delays
Asaram's lawyer said paperwork delays—especially with formalities at the Jodhpur High Court—held things up by about 10 days.
The court will look at his case again on July 2.
Meanwhile, it's important to remember that Asaram is serving life in prison for raping a minor girl at his Rajasthan ashram in 2013 and was also convicted for assaulting another woman between 2001 and 2006 at his Ahmedabad ashram.
This bail lets him keep getting medical treatment outside jail for now.
