Gujarat: Neighbor confesses to kidnapping, murder of 9-year-old girl

India

In Gandhinagar, Gujarat, a nine-year-old girl who went missing on November 12 was found dead about 36 hours later in an open plot behind a neighboring house.
The accused, Anil Devipujak (36), admitted to kidnapping and murdering her.
He had joined the search with others to avoid suspicion.

Motive and police response

Police say Devipujak acted out of a personal feud with the girl's father.
He's now been arrested and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for kidnapping, murder, and destroying evidence.
The investigation was massive—a large team of police, Home Guards, and GRD used CCTV footage, drones, forensic experts, and even a dog squad.
Police are still digging into whether any other crimes were involved.
