Guterres meets Modi on global economy ahead of BRICS summit

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres dropped by New Delhi to meet PM Modi, just ahead of India hosting the BRICS Summit on September 12-13.
Their conversation focused on how conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia are affecting the global economy, including regarding access to food and fertilizer.
Urges freedom of navigation, institutional reform
Guterres emphasized keeping international waters open for all, saying "freedom of navigation" is key.
He and Modi also discussed updating global institutions to fit today's world, plus tackling the growing danger of lethal autonomous weapons.
Guterres appreciated India's strong partnership with the U.N. and has been invited to speak at the summit's Open Session on September 13, covering resilience, innovation, and sustainability.
