#CareerBytes: Alternate career options if you didn't clear UPSC CSE

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is one of the most popular and challenging competitive exams. Cracking the UPSC CSE isn't easy; many spend years preparing to clear it. While it is a moment to celebrate for those have qualified in the exam, others who have not cleared the exam must now focus on other opportunities and options. Here are a few alternate options.

You can appear for competitive government job exams

The Civil Services Examination is a tough exam. Candidates who haven't cleared it can appear for government job exams. They would have covered many topics/sections of the syllabus for these exams while preparing for CSE papers. They would have an idea and might find other competitive government job exams, like State PSC exams, SSC CGL, banking exams, teaching (TET), etc., comparatively easier to crack.

You can opt for higher studies as per your interests

Candidates who haven't been able to clear the UPSC CSE can also opt to pursue higher studies. They can go for MBA, MTech, or other postgraduation programs. However, they should first identify which profession they want to get into as per their interests. After that, they should choose the perfect course and a good college, considering factors like the institute's rank, placement records, etc.

You can also go for a job in private sector

Candidates can also join a job in the private sector. One can take certification courses that would enhance their skills and help them get a good job. Also, those who have prepared for CSE must have acquired a lot of knowledge over the years. They can use this knowledge to help others prepare for competitive exams by joining coaching institutes or online educational portals.

If you have attempts left, you can take CSE again

Those who haven't been able to crack CSE might think it's the end of everything. Instead of feeling dejected, it's important to think about the next step. If they are still interested in taking the exam and have attempts left, they can give it another try. However, they should first identify their weaknesses and work on improving their performance before appearing for CSE again.
