Hyderabad: 23-year-old falls from bike; bus runs over her head

A 23-year-old woman riding pillion on a two-wheeler died following a road accident in Hyderabad on Saturday. The incident occurred around 7:30 am when the deceased, G Kavya, was on her way to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board exam. Her brother Shiva Sai, who was driving the two-wheeler, was also injured during the incident. Here are more details.

Kavya's brother tried overtaking bus when mishap occurred

On Saturday morning, Sai and Kavya were headed to the exam center they were both supposed to appear for when the former tried overtaking a private bus from the left near Nalgonda crossroads, The News Minute reported. While a parked autorickshaw ahead might have forced Sai to slam the brakes, a patch of loose gravel on the road caused the two-wheeler to skid.

Kavya fell under bus; died on spot

Both Sai and Kavya, who were not wearing helmets, fell from the bike. Unfortunately, Kavya's head fell directly under the rear wheel of the private bus her brother tried to overtake. The bus driver stopped immediately, however, Kavya died on the spot.

Aftermath

Deceased, her brother, taken to Osmania General Hospital

The two were taken to the Osmania General Hospital in Afzal Gunj where Sai was found to have sustained minor injuries. Kavya was shifted to the hospital's mortuary for an autopsy, Deccan Herald reported. Following the autopsy, her body was handed over to the family, who approached the police demanding strict action against the official responsible for the road's maintenance.

Kavya's uncle, Kiran Kumar Goud, told the Chronicle, "Action should be taken against officials concerned about the bad condition of the road. Had the roads been proper, Kavya would've been alive. We have lodged a complaint with the police and hope justice will be done."

Police book bus driver for culpable homicide

The case was registered against the bus driver under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) at the Chaderghat police station. According to TNM, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) official responsible for the road's maintenance is yet to be identified. Meanwhile, the bus driver has been arrested and the bus, belonging to Sony Travels, has been seized.
