Hyderabad gig and cab drivers threaten indefinite strike over fares
Hyderabad's cab drivers and gig workers have threatened to go on an indefinite strike in Hyderabad from August 8, 2026.
Backed by unions like TGPWU, they're asking the government to set fair base fares and pay rates for app-based rides and deliveries: basically, they want more predictable earnings.
Unions demand Telangana government notify fares
The unions aren't just talking pay: they also want the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Rules and Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025 put into action.
They're pushing for a government-notified minimum base fare, per kilometer fare, and per minute fare for gig workers, and stricter checks on private cars doing commercial trips without proper licenses.
As TGPWU founder-president Shaik Salauddin put it, better coordination between transport and labor departments is key to fixing these issues.
