Now even non-IIT students can pursue a course in IIT-Gandhinagar

Every year, lakhs aspire to get admitted in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), but due to tough competition, only a few thousands achieve this dream. But thanks to IIT-Gandhinagar, even non-IIT students can now experience the life inside the IIT campus. This is due to non-degree programs introduced by the institute. To note, the admission offer for this program is now open.

Intro
Students can opt for full-time or part-time courses at IIGN

IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) has been hosting both national and international students on the campus and offering non-degree programs for one decade now. Apart from spending one semester at the campus, the students also get a taste of the culture at an IIT. Notably, the institute allows the students from other colleges to opt for both part-time or full-time courses at the campus.

Objective
Objective is to introduce IIT systems to others, says Director

Interestingly, a student can join the institute under various departments including engineering, but qualification in JEE or GATE isn't necessary. Sudhir K Jain, IITGN's director told TOI, "The main objective is to give a chance to the deserving students to be introduced to the IIT systems, which is otherwise not possible for a large number of students owing to the cut-throat competition in entrances."

Statement
"Program helps the students learn without hampering their regular degree"

Adding further, Jain said, "It is better than online programs where there is no direct interaction between the faculty and students." "The program helps the students learn without hampering their regular degree as the colleges give them some credit for the courses done at IITGN," he said. The idea is to move towards 'inclusivity and transparency' from the notion that IITs are exclusive.

Details
For part-time non-degree courses, applicants can opt for multiple courses

For part-time non-degree courses, students/scientists/engineers of other institutes/universities/industries/research-labs can apply for one or two courses at IITGN, and pursue other at their parent organization. At IITGN, they can use research and academic facilities, take courses for credit or otherwise, etc. They will also be charged on the basis of an amount per credit of registration as set by the institute from time to time.

Recognition
IITGN will provide them with a certificate of completion

As per the official website, admissions are now open under all the courses for Semester-I (August-November) and Semester-II (January-April). Students can pay full fees for the semester and attend regular classes. Both national and international students can visit IITGN's website, www.iitgn.ac.in/non-degree, to register for the program under the courses of their choice. IITGN will provide them with a certificate of completion at semester end.

Details
Here is the eligibility criteria for the full-time applicants

All the students interested in joining IITGN's full-time program must fulfil these requirements: 1- Must be a part of a recognized institute/university in India or abroad. 2- Must have the permission of his/her respective institute/university to complete a part of his/her academic requirement at IITGN 3- Must have an academic record that gives him/her a good likelihood of getting benefit from the program.

Information
Must hold a bachelor's or master's to apply for part-time

Meanwhile, for the part-time courses, the candidate must hold a Bachelor's in engineering or a Master's degree in sciences, humanities or social sciences. Apart from this, the applicant must have an academic record that gives him/her a good likelihood of getting benefit from the program.
