IMD warns central and northeast India of heavy rain
Heads up: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says central and northeast India are in for a seriously rainy week.
Thanks to a low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh could see heavy showers on August 22, and the northeast is on alert for possible flash floods from intense downpours.
IMD lists state rain dates
West Madhya Pradesh will likely get drenched from August 22-25, while Chhattisgarh can expect widespread rainfall during 22-27 August and Vidarbha during 23-25 August.
Uttarakhand should brace for widespread rainfall through the 27th, too.
Meanwhile, places like Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are set for some wet days during August 22-23, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on August 22, and eastern Uttar Pradesh between August 22-24.
Northeast flash flood risk, coastal rain
The IMD has flagged districts in Assam (like Darrang and Karimganj), Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills, plus parts of Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura as at risk of flash floods over the next day or so.
On the flip side, most of south peninsular India will stay pretty dry, except coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep, which will see steady monsoon rain through August 27.
