India cutting TB cases at nearly double global rate: PM

India

PM Narendra Modi is celebrating some big wins in India's fight against tuberculosis (TB), saying the country's progress since 2015 is remarkable.
India has cut TB cases at nearly double the global rate, with more people getting diagnosed and treated than ever before.

Progress in numbers

Between 2015 and 2024, TB cases dropped by 21%—from 237 to 187 per lakh people—while the world average fell just 12%.
Treatment coverage shot up from 53% to an impressive 92%, and missing cases plummeted from around 15 lakh to under one lakh.
Deaths are down too, thanks in part to new tech like AI-powered X-rays and more care centers across the country.

Funding, nutrition, and innovation

Since launching Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana in 2018, over ₹4,400 crore has gone toward helping TB patients eat better while they recover.
Funding for treatment has jumped nearly 10 times in nine years, and success rates now beat global averages.
With eyes on eliminating TB by 2025, India is pushing ahead with innovation so no one gets left behind in this fight.
