India finalizing 17L tons of urea imports for kharif crops
India
To keep the Kharif crops growing strong, India is in the process of finalizing imports of 17 lakh tons of urea this season.
Officials say fertilizer stocks are "comfortable" right now at nearly 197 lakh tons, but the total need is much higher, about 384 lakh tons.
The government wants to make sure there's no shortage for farmers.
Government officials confident supplies meet demand
Farmers have already picked up about 37% of what's needed so far, and organic manure sales have shot up, more than tripling since last year.
Urea supplies have been secured from countries including Oman, Russia, and Egypt, among others, and with bids pouring in from around the world, officials are confident everyone will get what they need for a solid harvest.
