India gets 2 new TB tests: What they are

ICMR has just approved two Made-in-India TB tests—Quantiplus MTB FAST and UniAMP MTB Nucleic Acid Test Card.
Both are designed to boost testing speed, cut costs, and help spot TB earlier, which is key for quick treatment and stopping the spread.

Tests in detail

Quantiplus MTB FAST uses any standard PCR machine to check up to 96 samples at once and could lower costs by as much as 20%, experts estimate.
The UniAMP test swaps out tricky sputum samples for simple tongue swabs, making it way easier—especially for kids and older folks.

Tests validated by ICMR

Both tests have been validated by ICMR in 2025, supporting their use for TB detection.
With faster, more affordable testing now possible, India is strengthening its fight against TB.
