India initiates inspection of 787 jets following tragic crash

Following the heartbreaking crash of Air India flight AI 171, the Indian government has called for immediate safety inspections of Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliners equipped with GE Aviation's GEnx engines. The plane, carrying 242 people, went down just after takeoff from Ahmedabad—241 lives were lost onboard, along with several more on the ground.

TL;DR

Investigators have recovered both black boxes

Investigators have recovered both black boxes and are working with experts from the UK and US to piece together what happened. The pilot had sent a distress call before the plane crashed near a residential area. Meanwhile, Tata Group (which owns Air India) has promised financial help for victims' families and will cover survivors' medical expenses—a gesture that means a lot in such tough times. This is also the first-ever fatal accident involving a Boeing 787.
