India launches e-passport: How to apply for it

India

India just launched its new e-passport—a high-tech upgrade with a microchip that stores your biometric info like fingerprints and facial data.
This makes it much tougher to fake, keeps your identity safer, and helps speed up immigration checks.
Plus, it's recognized worldwide, so you're good to go wherever you travel.

How to get an e-passport

You can apply for an e-passport online through the Passport Seva portal, then finish up at select Passport Seva Kendras or post office centers where they'll collect your biometrics.
Right now, it's only available at certain locations, but the government plans to expand soon.
No worries if you have a regular passport—those are still valid for now.
