India-Maldives joint military exercise 'Ekuverin 2025' enters final phase

India

India and Maldives are wrapping up the 14th round of their joint military drill, 'Ekuverin 2025,' in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Running from December 2 to 15, the exercise brings together Indian Army and Maldives National Defence Force teams to train side by side on counter-insurgency and anti-terror tactics.

What's special about 'Ekuverin?'

'Ekuverin' means "friends" in Dhivehi, highlighting the spirit behind these drills.
Held every year since 2009 with each country taking turns as host, it's all about learning from each other—sharing strategies, planning together, and even trying out new tech.
It's one of three regular defense exercises between the two nations.

Why should you care?

This isn't just a routine army event—it's a big move for teamwork in the Indian Ocean region.
The exercise fits into India's push to build stronger ties with its neighbors through its Neighbourhood First policy and SAGAR vision.
Both countries are showing they're serious about keeping their part of the world safe and working together for a secure future.
