India mandates 3-hour takedown, 2-hour sensitive removals, 36-hour grievance processing
India
Big update: Online platforms in India now have only 3 hours (down from 36 hours!) to remove illegal content after a government or court notice.
For super-sensitive stuff like nudity or impersonation, they get just 2 hours.
Plus, user complaints must be sorted within 36 hours instead of the old 72 hours.
India mandates AI content labeling
To fight deepfakes and AI misuse, platforms must clearly label AI-generated content and add traceable info.
Big apps (over 5 million users) need automated tools, dedicated grievance officers, and closer work with law enforcement.
The government's also backing projects like Saakshya, a joint project of IIT Jodhpur and IIT Madras, and IIT Kharagpur's realtime voice deepfake detection system to help keep things safe online.
