India proposes new rules for AI-generated content

India recently announced draft rules that would require obvious labeling of AI-generated content—think deepfakes—on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Google, and X.
Announced this month, these changes are open for public feedback until November 6.

Labels must cover at least 10% of visuals

With deepfakes getting harder to spot, the government wants to fight fake news and impersonation by making it clear when something is AI-made.
The new rules say labels must be big (covering at least 10% of visuals or the first 10% of audio). Platforms also need to add metadata so users know what's real.
