Indian Army's infantry gets major tech upgrade: Know how

India

Big changes are underway in the Indian Army's infantry as of October 2024.
Led by Lt Gen Ajay Kumar, the Army is moving away from old-school, manpower-heavy tactics and building smaller, faster units that can handle tough border and mountain missions.
The goal: be quicker, smarter, and ready for anything.

Bhairav Commando battalions

The Army just launched five Bhairav Commando battalions—each with about 200-250 soldiers from different branches, all trained for rapid assaults and quick moves.
The Army aims to raise 40 to 50 such battalions in phases.

Ashni Drone Platoons

Every infantry battalion is being equipped with an Ashni Drone Platoon, flying 10 types of drones for surveillance and precision strikes—including kamikaze drones.
With advanced anti-tank missiles and radars being integrated, the Army's tech game is leveling up fast.

Future of warfare

This transformation is all about staying ahead in modern warfare.
By combining specialized units and high-tech gear, the Army hopes to boost response times and keep its edge in challenging terrains and future conflicts.
