Indian Navy adds INS Agray in Aatmanirbhar Bharat anti-submarine push
The Indian Navy just got a boost with INS Agray, a fresh anti-submarine warship built mostly in India.
It's one of eight new ships set to replace the older Abhay-class, and it's part of India's push for more homegrown defense tech under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Fun fact: it carries the name of a previous INS Agray that decommissioned in 2017.
Shallow water ship armed with torpedoes
At 77.6 meters long and weighing 900 tons, INS Agray is designed for action in shallow waters near the coast.
Thanks to its waterjet propulsion, it can zip around tight spots easily.
It comes loaded with lightweight torpedoes, Indian-made rocket launchers, and sonar systems to hunt submarines.
Besides tracking submarines, it can also lay mines, keep an eye on the coastline, and handle smaller maritime missions.
