India's next big climate goals drop this December
India is gearing up to announce its updated climate targets for 2035 by the end of this year, as shared by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav at the COP climate summit in Belem, Brazil.
These new goals build on India's Paris Agreement promises—like cutting emissions intensity by 45% and ensuring that about 50% of its installed electricity capacity comes from non-fossil sources by 2030.
Progress so far and what's next
India's already ahead on some fronts, hitting 256 GW in non-fossil fuel capacity.
Plus, the country is set to release its first Biennial Transparency Report soon, laying out exactly where things stand with emissions and climate action.
Even though the official update was delayed at COP30, these new targets will map out how India plans to hit net-zero emissions by 2070 and keep pushing for a greener future.
