India's sugar output to drop 11% as stocks remain sufficient
India
India's sugar production is set to fall by 11% this season, dropping to 30.6 million metric tons because of crop diseases and heavy rains.
Still, officials say there is enough sugar stocked up to keep things running smoothly until the next crushing season starts in October.
Govt caps stocks, allows duty-free imports
Sugar prices shot up from ₹48.18 to ₹55.70 per kilogram in just a month, leading the government to put limits on how much dealers and bulk buyers can stock.
To keep shelves full, especially with festival season coming, they are also allowing duty-free imports and asking mills to start crushing from 15 October 2026.
