India's Union Coal Ministry says 62 days of power coal
No need to worry about blackouts, India's got enough coal to keep the lights on for about 62 days, according to the Union Coal Ministry.
Right now, thermal power plants are stocked with 34.55 million metric tons of coal, plus another 113 million metric tons waiting at mines and in transit.
That adds up to a solid buffer of 148 million metric tons, keeping electricity flowing smoothly.
India July coal output, dispatches rise
Coal production is on the rise: July saw a 7.51% year-on-year increase, reaching 69.75 million tons (MT).
Dispatches (that's coal actually sent out for use) rose 17.34% year-on-year, thanks to strong energy demand.
With production ongoing, the stocks are replenished and the coal stock is adequate to meet about 62 days of the power sector's coal consumption requirement, providing a comfortable buffer.
