IRDAI urges insurers to expedite crash claim payouts
After the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12—which claimed 241 lives and damaged homes near the airport—India's insurance regulator (IRDAI) has told insurers to settle claims for victims' families as quickly as possible. The Boeing Dreamliner was headed to London when it crashed into a residential area, hitting hospital buildings and causing explosions. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
IRDAI has asked insurers to skip some usual paperwork
To make things easier, IRDAI has asked insurers to skip some usual paperwork and rely on official lists for identifying victims. Overseas medical claims are also being fast-tracked. There's now a help desk at the hospital for anyone needing support with claims, and insurers have to update settlement progress online every week—so families can stay in the loop without extra hassle.
