Jet fined Rs. 50,000 for button in passenger's food
  • Jet Airways has been ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 to a passenger who found a button in his in-flight meal.

The incident happened on August 6, 2014, when Hemant Desai was flying business class from Delhi to Ahmedabad. MP Parimal Nathwani was also travelling on the flight.

Though Jet offered to settle the matter, he refused and sued the company for Rs. 3L.

Passenger wasn't harmed nor did he cooperate, argues Jet
  • Desai found a button in his garlic bread which he ordered aboard his Jet flight in 2014.

He immediately raised the issue with the crew and refused Jet's offer to settle the matter.

Jet argued Desai never deposited the button to either its crew or the consumer court; that it hadn't harmed him; and that he didn't cooperate when it reached out to him.

  • In response, Desai submitted an email in which Jet had apologized and offered to settle, which he had refused.

The court pointed out Jet displayed deficient service when he found a button in his food; the crew didn't give him a complaint book either.

It ordered Jet to pay Desai Rs. 50,000 for agony caused, plus another Rs. 5,000 towards his legal expenses.
