J&K: One SOG jawan martyred in encounter with JeM militants
A major gunfight broke out in the Jaffer forest of Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, as security forces hunted down suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants.
The clash started early February 3 during a joint police-Army search after tip-offs about two to three militants hiding in the area.
A Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan, Amjad Pathan, was martyred and two other SOG personnel were injured.
Operation expanded to nearby villages, other districts
The operation has now expanded to nearby villages along the Ujh river and other high-altitude areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, and Doda.
Security teams are keeping up parallel searches elsewhere too.
Meanwhile, a related operation in Kishtwar since January 18 has already led to one soldier's death and several injuries amid tough conditions.
The situation is tense as forces continue their search for the militants.
