Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumes via Sikkim after 5 years
India
After five years, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Sikkim's Nathula Pass is back.
The first batch of 36 pilgrims, aged 21 to 70, just set off on their 11-day journey to Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, with a send-off from the Governor and Deputy Speaker.
Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel are accompanying them all the way through Tibet.
Yatra had been paused since 2018
Pilgrims spend two days acclimatizing at local bases before heading out—a move praised by Rajendra Chettri, CEO of Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation, who said the positive feedback shows their team's dedication.
The yatra had been paused since 2018; its return is expected to boost tourism and strengthen India-China cultural ties.
