Kakkayam dam in Kozhikode closes gates Thursday after 4-day release

After four days of carefully letting out extra water, the Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode, Kerala, shut its gates on Thursday at 3:40pm.
The release started Sunday because heavy monsoon rains had nearly filled the reservoir, but with water levels now steady and inflow down, engineers decided it was safe to close things up.
KSEB monitoring as flood risk drops
With the gates closed, no more water is being released into the Kuttiyadi River.
Flood risk has dropped for now, but disaster management teams are still asking people living in low-lying areas nearby to stay alert until things fully return to normal.
The KSEB says they'll keep an eye on the reservoir just in case; safety first during monsoon season.
