Karnataka HC maintains acquittal of ex-French diplomat
The Karnataka High Court has upheld the acquittal of former French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, who was accused of raping his young daughter back in 2012.
The case began when his estranged wife filed a complaint, but over time, gaps in evidence and inconsistencies in statements made it tough for the court to find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
What the judges said
Judges pointed out several issues: key witnesses weren't examined, DNA evidence was questionable, and there were procedural lapses.
They also noted that the complainant had reached out to multiple NGOs and lawyers before filing charges, which raised questions about how the case unfolded.
With so much uncertainty, both the trial court earlier—and now the High Court—felt acquitting Mazurier was justified.
