Kerala HC limits Sabarimala pilgrims to 75K daily after overcrowding
Kerala High Court has set a daily limit of 75,000 pilgrims for the Sabarimala temple after huge crowds—almost two lakh people in just two days—led to serious overcrowding at the start of the Mandala-Makaravilakku season.
Spot bookings have also been cut to 5,000 per day until November 24.
Why does it matter?
The court stepped in to prevent any disaster from overcrowding and told temple authorities to improve crowd management.
With many visitors showing up on dates they didn't book for, things got chaotic fast.
Now, forest route entry is capped at 5,000 daily and more booking counters are open at Nilakkal.
Opposition leaders have also called out the state government for poor facilities, so the court has ordered better basics like water, shade, sanitation, and medical aid for everyone's safety this season.
