Kerala man busted for running organ trafficking ring in Iran

India

Madhu Jayakumar, a Kerala resident, was arrested by the NIA upon his return from Iran in early November 2024 for leading an international organ trafficking racket based in Iran.
Authorities say he targeted people struggling financially, convincing them to travel abroad with promises of legal organ donation—only to force them into giving up their kidneys once there.

How the racket worked and where things stand now

Jayakumar's network arranged illegal kidney transplants in Iranian hospitals, making it look legit. About 20 Indians have reportedly been trafficked this way.
Three other men—Sabith Nasar, Sajith Shyam, and Bellamkonda Ram Prasad—were already arrested last year for helping run the operation.
The charges include human and organ trafficking, extortion, and amassing illegal wealth, including crypto assets.
After his recent arrest, Jayakumar is being questioned as investigators dig deeper into how far this international scam goes.
