Kerala prepares for 5 days of heavy rainfall

Kerala is in for several days of heavy rain and gusty winds, with the IMD warning of downpours from June 14 to 17. Thanks to westerly winds and a cyclonic circulation, the state has already seen orange alerts in 10 districts and yellow alerts in four. Fisherfolk are being told to stay off the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast for now.

TL;DR

Red alert in 2 districts

The IMD uses color codes: red means extremely heavy rain (over 20cm in a day), orange signals very heavy rain (11-20cm), and yellow means heavy rain (6-11cm). On Saturday, two districts were under red alert, nine under orange, and two had yellow alerts. After an early monsoon that already caused some damage last month, people are being asked to stay prepared for possible disruptions this week.
