Kerala probes alleged EVM tampering offers in 2026 assembly elections
Kerala has kicked off an investigation into claims that some candidates in the 2026 assembly elections were offered EVM (electronic voting machine) tampering services for a price.
The case started after Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan reported to police that someone allegedly claimed that "the BJP was planning to hack EVMs" and that he had "a special technology" to prevent it and ensure favorable election results, leading Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to call in the cyber wing.
Candidates paid for EVM protection
According to complaints, a person approached party candidates in Kasaragod, Uduma, and Manjeswaram, claiming there was a BJP plot to hack EVMs, and offering "technology" to beat it for cash.
Reports say two candidates paid up, but one refused. A former Left candidate also said he was asked for money by someone using a Congress leader's name.
The probe now aims to figure out who's behind these offers and if any actual tampering happened.
