Kerala records highest single-day Covid-19 spike

India

Kerala just logged its highest single-day spike in COVID-19, with 170 new cases and three deaths on Wednesday. This brings the state's active cases to 2,223. Across India, there are now 7,121 active cases after a recent uptick.

New variants spreading quickly across the state

Kerala still tops the country for active cases, especially in Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Health officials say new Omicron sub-variants like LF.7 and JN.1 are spreading quickly—but thankfully aren't causing severe illness so far.

Masks mandatory in public places

Masks are now required again in public places and hospitals across Kerala. Officials are urging everyone to avoid unnecessary hospital visits and keep up with handwashing or sanitizing—just basic steps to help slow things down while this wave passes.
