Kerala: Self-styled nun arrested for threatening CM Pinarayi Vijayan
India
Teena Jose, a self-styled nun, has been booked by police after making a Facebook comment that allegedly threatened Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Her post, which referenced the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, quickly drew attention and concern.
What led to the arrest?
A lawyer in New Delhi filed a complaint, prompting Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police to book Jose on charges of inciting riot and intimidation under new legal provisions.
Police are now investigating her post and plan to question her further.
Jose was expelled from her religious congregation back in 2009 and later became a lawyer herself; the group has since clarified that her actions are entirely her own.
