Live Blog: Amit Shah's J&K visit

The shrine holds a special place among the Kashmiri Pandit community. The color of the water of the springs of the shrine area is believed to foretell how the coming year would be. It has been reported that whenever the water has turned reddish, bad times have fallen on Kashmir.

Shah offered prayers at the temple of Mata Ragnya Devi and performed puja. Taking to Twitter, Shah said he had the honor of visiting the major center of faith of the Kashmiri Pandit community which inspires the nation. "This holy place has divine power that can be felt only by visiting it," Shah wrote in Kashmiri language using Devanagari script.

Amit Shah apparently had his bulletproof glass shield removed from the podium before addressing the gathering at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). "I was taunted, condemned...Today I want to speak to you frankly, which is why there is no bulletproof shield or security here....Farooq sahab has suggested me to speak with Pakistan but I will speak to the youth and & people of the Valley," ANI quoted Amit Shah as saying.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered prayers at the Kheer Bhawani Durga Temple today. Shah is on his first visit to the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. On Sunday he visited forward areas at the Makwal border in Jammu and Kashmir with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Amit Shah will address panchayat representatives and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Srinagar on Monday. He will also meet members of the civil society and attend a Central Reserve Police Force function in Pulwama. Security across Jammu and Kashmir was enhanced in view of his visit.

On Sunday, Shah inaugurated a new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu. He later addressed a rally at the Bhagwati Nagar ground where he said that earlier the Union Territory and Ladakh faced discrimination but now the administration was ensuring equitable development in these regions.

A BJP-led delegation of three displaced Kashmiri Pandit organizations called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday and demanded the construction of two-bedroom quarters for the migrant employees from the community recruited under the prime minister's special recruitment program in the Kashmir valley, besides security and insurance coverage for them.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Monday inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Srinagar. Today is the last day of Amit Shah’s three-day visit to the union territory.

Shah reviewed the security scenario at a meeting held at the Raj Bhawan and attended by top civil administration officials, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and senior security officials from the Army, CRPF, police, and other agencies. The home minister was briefed about the steps taken to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir and counter-infiltration measures taken by the forces, the officials said.

Amit Shah is attending a security review meeting at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. Earlier, he visited the residence of late Parvez Ahmad Dar, Inspector of CID, who was killed by militants in June. Shah met his family and condoled his death.

Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar today for a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. He was received by J&K Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh at the airport. Security arrangements have been heightened following a spate of targeted civilian killings.

In wake of the recent killings of minorities, the J&K administration has decided to monitor areas where they live with drones. The union territory has witnessed horrific targeted killings in recent days. The local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have jointly placed drone surveillance for these areas. The same would also be enforced in Lal Chowk, the city center.

Amit Shah will chair a security review meeting at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar at 12:30 pm. Later in the day, he will interact with members of Jammu and Kashmir's Youth Clubs at 4:45 pm.

Shah will inaugurate the first direct international flight between Srinagar and Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates. International flights will begin in Srinagar from today and the decision follows a meeting between top officials in the union territory's administration.

Union home minister Amit Shah is reaching Jammu and Kashmir today for a three-day visit. This is Shah's first visit to the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
