Ludhiana daughters perform last rites of father, challenge age-old belief
In Ludhiana's Kaelpur village, two daughters stepped up to perform the last rites of their father, ASI Teerath Singh, challenging the old belief that only sons handle these duties.
Singh, who served at the Ludhiana DIG office, tragically passed away on October 14 after an accidental firearm discharge while cleaning his weapon.
His son Baljot paid his last respects via video call since he couldn't travel in time.
Singh received full state honors at his funeral
Singh received full state honors at his funeral on October 17, with villagers and police officials paying their respects through a gun salute.
Legal formalities were completed by the police based on a statement from his wife Bhupinder Kaur.
The daughters' actions not only honored their father but also showed that breaking gender stereotypes can be both meaningful and respectful.
