Maharashtra FDA seizes ₹67.20cr after 12,083 inspections and arrests 875
Maharashtra's FDA just wrapped up a huge crackdown on food safety violations between June and August 2026.
Led by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the team carried out 12,083 inspections across the state, resulting in 875 arrests and food stock worth around ₹67.20 crore being seized.
Along with this, they filed 655 FIRs, suspended 603 food licenses, and handed out 5,269 improvement notices to businesses.
ISKCON Govinda restaurant faces license suspension
Inspectors discovered everything from rodent infestations to rotten food at restaurants, food manufacturers, roadside eateries and quick-commerce facilities.
They even uncovered fake paneer and synthetic dairy products.
Big names weren't spared either, ISKCON's Govinda's restaurant in Mumbai faced suspension of its license for alleged hygiene and food safety lapses.
Commissioner Mundhe emphasized that everyone has to follow the same rules, no matter how famous or small their business is.
