Major fire engulfs Oman-Bound vessel; INS Tabar responds

When the oil tanker MT Yi Cheng 6, with 14 Indian crew members on board, caught fire and lost power in the Gulf of Oman, the Indian Navy's INS Tabar jumped into action.
The ship was on its way from Kandla to Oman when things went wrong on June 29, 2025.

TL;DR

How the Indian Navy rescued the crew

As soon as the distress call came in, INS Tabar sent over firefighting teams and equipment by boat and helicopter.
Thirteen naval officers teamed up with five of the tanker's crew to fight back the flames—and their efforts have already brought the situation under control.

India's role in keeping international waters safe

This rescue shows how fast and prepared the Indian Navy is when it comes to protecting people at sea—especially fellow Indians working far from home.
It's also a reminder that India takes its role seriously when it comes to keeping international waters safe for everyone.
