Majority of Delhi vehicle owners reject fuel ban
A new survey shows almost 8 in 10 Delhi vehicle owners aren't happy with the city's recent fuel ban on older vehicles.
The rule, which kicked in July 1, stops diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol ones over 15 from buying fuel—impacting over 6 million vehicles in an effort to fight pollution.
Survey shows 2-wheeler owners especially frustrated
Out of nearly 17,000 people surveyed, two-wheeler owners were especially frustrated—87% said they opposed the ban.
Since bikes and scooters make up about 70% of affected vehicles, a lot of daily commuters are feeling the squeeze.
By comparison, less than half of car owners disagreed with the policy.
Delhi govt pauses rule amid protests, confusion
The ban was meant to cut emissions from older vehicles as per Supreme Court orders, but its sudden rollout led to protests and confusion.
Now, Delhi's environment minister has hit pause on the rule until a proper number plate recognition system is ready—hoping to find a smoother way forward that doesn't disrupt so many lives.
