Father, 4 disabled daughters found dead at their Delhi home
A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Vasant Kunj's Rangpuri village, Delhi, where a man and his four physically challenged daughters were found dead in their home. The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Hira Lal Sharma and his daughters—26-year-old Neetu, 24-year-old Nikki, 23-year-old Neeru, and 20-year-old Nidhi. Preliminary investigations suggest that they might have consumed poison. Police were notified about the situation on Friday morning when a foul smell started to waft from the residence.
Police discover bodies after neighbor's alert
A neighbor named Ratan tipped off the police after he noticed a stench and flies buzzing around the house. Ratan said, "We hadn't seen them for two to three days. We last saw the father 3-4 days ago." When the police arrived, they had to break the lock on the flat door, only to find all five bodies inside. The daughters were found in one room, while Sharma's body was in another room.
Evidence points to poisoning as cause of death
The police didn't find any injury marks on the bodies, but they did stumble upon three packets of poison, five glasses, and a spoon filled with a suspicious liquid inside the house. This led the investigators to suspect that poisoning was the cause of death. "The door was locked from the inside, and sulphaz pouches were found. In the initial investigation, Delhi Police called it a suicide," an official stated.
Deceased family's background and living conditions
According to ANI, Sharma had been working as a carpenter at at hospital in Vasant Kunj since 1996. His wife died a year ago due to cancer. The daughters were unable to walk due to their disabilities; one was blind. Sharma was the only one taking care of his family after his wife's death. CCTV footage caught Sharma entering the house on September 24, and after that, the door was locked from inside.
