Maoists kill tribal man in Chhattisgarh, suspect police informant

India

In Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, Maoist insurgents killed Madkam Bhima on Wednesday night.
They accused him of being a police informer and dragged him out before attacking him with sharp weapons at his home in Pujarikanker village.
Bhima died on the spot—marking the 38th civilian death in Bastar's Maoist violence in 2024.

Legal action initiated after murder case registration

Police have registered a murder case and started legal action.
This killing comes as security forces ramp up operations against Maoists ahead of the government's 2025 deadline to end Left-Wing Extremism.
Despite dozens of insurgents killed or surrendered this year, attacks on civilians like Bhima show that safety remains a big concern in the region.
