MCD demolishes 136 buildings after Satya Niketan collapse killed 7
After a deadly PG building collapse in Satya Niketan on September 6 that claimed seven lives, Delhi's civic body, MCD, has launched a major crackdown on unsafe and unauthorized buildings.
Between September 7 and 11, it demolished 136 structures across the city.
Just today, it carried out 25 demolition actions, sealed four properties, and handed out six show-cause notices.
MCD identifies 1,523 operational PGs
Demolitions are happening in areas like Satya Niketan, Vasant Kunj, Burari, Shalimar Bagh, and Daryaganj.
MCD is also checking out PG accommodations: so far it has found 1,523 operational PG buildings with about 33,500 residents.
Of the PGs surveyed by September 10, three were flagged as visibly dangerous, putting 69 people at risk.
Survey results will help decide next steps for places breaking safety rules.
