Mir Jafar descendants dropped from West Bengal electoral roll
Descendants of Mir Jafar, the same one from the 1757 Battle of Plassey, have been removed from the electoral roll in West Bengal.
This happened after a special revision flagged name discrepancies in their family records.
Syed Mohammad Fahim Meerza, a Trinamool Congress councilor and descendant, says their family's deep roots and historical contributions are being overlooked by this bureaucratic mixup.
Meerza family to approach electoral tribunal
The deletions affected several relatives, including 82-year-old Syed Mohammad Reza Ali Meerza, mainly due to changes like adding "Syed" to names.
Even after submitting documents, they were marked as "under adjudication," which could keep them from voting in April elections.
Meerza says they'll take their case to electoral tribunal: We will approach the electoral tribunal but the process is time-consuming.
The issue may not be resolved before the assembly elections, Fahim Meerza said.
Officials say it's due to technical reasons and encourage genuine voters to reapply if left out.
